A New Voyage for Ships in Scale!
Share
I'm thrilled to share some exciting news that's close to my heart—Ships in Scale magazine is setting sail once again!
For decades, Ships in Scale was a vital part of the ship modeling world, connecting builders across generations with detailed build logs, kit reviews, expert guidance, and stunning showcases of craftsmanship. Like many of you, I was a subscriber and a fan, and I missed it dearly when it ceased publication in 2017.
Over the past year, we've been quietly working behind the scenes to bring it back. I'm proud to announce that SeaWatch Books has reached an agreement with the Nautical Research Guild, and we're officially relaunching Ships in Scale — with the first new issue planned for early 2026.
Our vision is simple:
-
Honor the magazine's rich tradition that so many modelers loved,
-
Expand its coverage to welcome all builders — from first-time kit modelers to master craftsmen,
-
Embrace a fresh digital platform so modelers around the world can connect more easily.
The new Ships in Scale will continue to feature the detailed build articles, kit reviews, and maritime topics you expect, while also branching into broader areas like R/C models, steel navy, entry-level kits, and museum model showcases. We want to celebrate the full spectrum of the hobby — from its earliest projects to its most ambitious masterpieces.
We'll also be offering more ways for modelers to contribute, share their work, and be part of the growing community.

I can't wait to see where this next chapter takes us. Thanks for being part of the journey!
